“Surreal influences with Baroque touches” is how Karl Lagerfeld described the accessories mood of gigantic twisted gold ropes that were draped on clothes, ears, necks and waists during the epic Spring Summer 1990 show swiftly replacing the classic CHANEL chains. Victoire de Castellane’s coldcast resin ropes drip with 24K gold plating and jumbo baroque glass Maison Gripoix pearls. These famous bangles were worn throughout the runway show and photographed on the top supermodels of the epoque. Stacked or on their own, they make a dramatic statement. Karl Lagerfeld created the huge salomonic ropes to evoke his hometown, 1900s Hamburg, Germany. The CHANEL cordage collection was made in two gold finishes: matte and brilliant.
