This very rare Maison Gripoix jet black poured glass cross pendant from the 1994 Spring Haute Couture collection is a massive statement piece. The pate de verre, or glass paste, was made by pouring molten glass, in this instance, an inky black hue, into a delicate mould so that the final glass object would resemble a cabochon gemstone. The end result is a set of gorgeously brilliant gripoix cabochons that have the polish, lustre and texture of black onyx. Goossens continued working with Maison CHANEL after the founder's passing and collaborated throughout the 1980's and 1990's with Karl Lagerfeld for his Haute Couture and Pret-a-Porter collections.
