Austria was held dear to Karl Lagerfeld's heart. Even more so, the spectacular Rococo Schloss Leopoldskron palace in Salzburg. For the Autumn Winter CHANEL campaign in 1988, Lagerfeld photographed his exquisite designs on Inès de La Fressange in the sumptuous interiors and gardens of the palace. Among the breathtaking photos, one in particular, stands out. Here we have Inès in a captivating silk velvet cropped jacket spectacularly embellished with oversized blooms in shades of violet with emerald green accents. These amazing pompoms continue throughout the front, back and sleeves. Though this was a Prêt-à-porter collection, the artisinal craftsmanship on this very rare and elusive piece is every inch Haute Couture with flamboyant embroidery and eight stunning gilt and black gloss clover buttons. Lagerfeld returned to Saltzburg for his wonderful 2014 Metiers d'Art Collection presented at the Schloss Leopoldskron palace once again.
